Elements and Principles of Art

Space- This is a picture from Ft. Lauderdale Beach in Florida. This picture demonstrated space to me because of how much space is between the hotels/condos and the ocean.

Rhythm- I thought this picture was perfect for rhythm because of the way the waves move. They seem like its all insinct.

Harmony- The sunset in Siesta Key, Florida was a perfect match for harmony. There was no confussion with the picture; it all went together like one. It was such a peaceful picture for a viewer.

Movement- Movement adds excitement to a work of art. The snow falling I believe adds excitement to the picture.

Color- The picture is of a thunderstorm in Florida one night. The way that the moon and the sky reflected in the picture is unreal. The colors are beautiful. It shows how dark the sky is compared to the bright moon.

Unity- With unity it is when a picture comes together as one. This is a picture of Downtown Buffalo skyline. This picture to me, really shows the beauty of Buffalo. There are so many elements being demonstrated in this picture, the color, texture, form, shape, and line. The way the picture is, it is all united as one.

Value- This was a picture take from a wedding on a beach in Siesta Key, Florida. The little girl was the flower girl for the wedding. When I saw this picture the value was so strong. The black and white made the picture look beautiful!

Texture- This is a picture of the city of Chicago. The buildings were unbelievable. As soon as someone looks at this pciture they can automatically see the amazing texture in the buildings.
Shape- The moon in the dark Florida night sky was the perfect picture when I thought of shape. It shows how circular the moon really is.

Proportion- I chose this picture for proportion because of the way the cake is shaped. It is set from smallest part on the top to the largest part on the bottom.

Emphasis- This is when there are points of interest developed to pull the viewer's eye to the important part of the body of work. For this princple, I chose a picture from the Taj Mahal hotel in Atlantic City. The chandileers really stood out to me. The first things I notice when I look at this picture is the last chandileer with the blue lights beaming on it.

Balance- Balance is a sense of stability in the body of the work. It consists of repeating shapes and weight. The picture of the palm trees and the ocean stood out to me when I thought of balance. There are objects that are repeated and it really has a balance weight.

Variety- This picture is from Siesta Key, Florida. It shows the differences in the work. It shows so many different shapes, colors, and textures.

Line- This is a picture of a fountain in the Pier Shops in Atlantic City. The fountain goes along to music as well. This picture shows the lines of the water all going the same way.

Form- Form is an element that is three-dimensional and encloses volume. Based on this discription, I thought that the picture of the Bean in Chicago was perfect. It is a three-dimensional object and it encloses volume.

  1. Great slideshow! I love the ocean, and there's nothing like the smell of salty air and the sounds of the waves. It brings me back, as I lived on an island in South Jersey for a while. Now I'm sad, thanks! That little girl is so cut, what a Hallmark moment. Your movement photo was very cool, and is very artistic. your variety photo reminds me of Hawaii. Ok now I have to go plan a trip, I miss the beach!
